Sampdoria are showing an interest in signing Paulinho – the man who ensured promotion for Livorno on Sunday.

The 27-year-old netted in the 1-0 win over Empoli last night which secured the club’s presence in next season’s Serie A.

However, that strike may turn out to be a parting gift for the Brazilian striker who joined Livorno in 2004 from Juventude.

“Sampdoria are leading the chase for Paulinho,” agent Andrea Bagnoli told Primo Canale Sport. “They were the first team to move for him and they are in pole position.

“He would be happy to move to Genoa and Sampdoria are one of the most important clubs in the country.

“Contact between ourselves, Livorno and Sampdoria has already started and that will continue in the next few days.

“I think I’ll be speaking with Samp again this week.”

The player has scored 48 goals in 148 games for the Amaranto. He’s also had spells on loan with Grosseto and Sorrento.
