Sky Sport Italia report Sampdoria will sign Sebastian Giovinco as a free agent, as they fear Manolo Gabbiadini has sustained a serious knee injury.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio and Fabrizio Romano, the 35-year-old ‘Atomic Ant’ will fly in from Canada, where he has been training with his former club Toronto FC, to sign for Samp.

Giovinco has been out of contract since leaving Al-Hilal in August 2021 and recently began training with MLS club Toronto FC as a ‘guest’ to keep in shape.

It would be his return to Serie A for the first time since leaving Juventus for Toronto in February 2015.

Gabbiadini limped off during Sampdoria’s 4-0 victory over Sassuolo this afternoon after slipping on the turf.

He was seen with an ice pack strapped to his knee and there were immediately concerns it could be serious.

The 30-year-old has a long history of injury problems and had already missed almost three months at the start of this season with a sprained ankle.

  1. Really sorry for Manolo :/ he seemed to regain form and his magical left foot was helping Doria.

This would be an atomic signing, do it!
