Over a thousand Sampdoria supporters gathered outside the club’s headquarters in Genoa to protest against controversial owner Massimo Ferrero during a meeting of the shareholders on Monday afternoon.

It has been a troubling year on and off the pitch for the Blucerchiati, having been relegated from Serie A in trying circumstances at the beginning of May and relationships between Ferrero and the fans reaching an all-time low.

The club also owes millions in back-wages to members of the playing and coaching staff.

The Samp supporters finally started to believe that there was light at the end of the tunnel when Leeds United majority shareholder and business partner Matteo Manfredi agreed a deal in principle to takeover in the early hours of Saturday morning, but the deal is yet to officially go through.

The takeover is pending the final approval from Ferrero, which, as of yet, has not been granted. Radrizzani and Manfredi reportedly met with Ferrero in Milan over the weekend, but no significant progress was made as a result of their pleas.

Frustrated with how the club has been treated under Ferrero’s stewardship, particularly with the developments over the weekend, the Sampdoria fans made their voices heard on Monday, chanting, with colourful language, for the 71-year-old to leave the club and for Samp to be ‘liberated.’
