Sampdoria are close to signing Modibo Diakite from Frosinone, so could drop Andrea Ranocchia interest.

The Blucerchiati were believed to be very close to securing a deal for the Inter defender, with President Massimo Ferrero hinting that the transfer could be completed next week.

However, Gianluca Di Marzio’s website reports that Samp held talks with Frosinone for Diakite today, and are very close to finding an agreement.

The 28-year-old has had previous spells at Lazio, Cagliari and Pescara as well as making seven appearances while on loan at Sunderland in 2014.

With the deal for Diakite thought to be close, Sampdoria could give up on Ranocchia, who is looking for a way out of Inter after making just one Serie A start so far this season.
