Dejan Stankovic had already been linked with the Sampdoria bench and it’s reported the 3-1 home defeat to Lazio was the final straw for Roberto D’Aversa.

The Blucerchiati have lost five of their last seven Serie A games and are sliding down the standings.

There had been a boost recently, beating Salernitana and Hellas Verona, but back-to-back 3-1 defeats to Fiorentina and today Sampdoria seem to be fatal for D’Aversa’s Marassi career.

The reports had already been circulating that Stankovic was a target for President Massimo Ferrero.

According to Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia, Sampdoria have now made initial contact with the former Inter and Lazio midfielder to ask for his availability.

It’s going to be difficult, because Stankovic is currently working at Red Star Belgrade, so must negotiate the termination of that contract early.

Crvena Zvezda are second in the Serbian league, only three points off leaders Partizan Belgrade.

Another target mentioned for Sampdoria by Calciomercato.com is former Juventus boss Andrea Pirlo.

  1. His record with Crvena Zvezda has been nothing short of remarkable. He deserves better. He should stay a little longer in the hope of getting a better job.
