The Argentine hitman is in limbo after Milan opted not to permanently sign him despite a loan spell with the club last season.

Lopez remains on Catania’s books, but has burned his bridges with the Sicilians and is on the lookout for new employers this summer.

His agent, Andrea D’Amico, told Primocanalesport: “Sampdoria are working hard and very seriously on signing Lopez. I think the deal with soon assume a more definitive outcome.”

“The boy has shown a willingness to go to Sampdoria.”

Torino have already held talks with the 28-year-old’s representative about a transfer and Napoli have been heavily linked, but Samp will rival them both.

Ciro Ferrara, the new Coach of the Blucerchiati, could also sign Novara’s Marco Rigoni.

The player is another client of agent D’Amico and, while discussing Lopez’s move, the subject of buying Rigoni also cropped up.

D’Amico stated: “Rigoni? Sampdoria director of sport Pasquale Sensibile knows him, and knows that he has had several good seasons and two promotions.

“This year he was the best midfielder in Serie A and scored 11 goals. For Rigoni it would be a dream to play for Sampdoria.”

Lopez and Rigoni would represent significant coups for Samp, but no transfer fees have yet been agreed with Catania and Novara respectively.
