The current Blucerchiato full-back suffered severe ligament damage in Italy's Euro 2016 qualifier against Croatia and is expected to stay off the pitch for six to eight months.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, President Massimo Ferrero is looking to replace De Silvestri with young U21 international Sabelli.

Bari are believed to value the player at €2m, with Sampdoria having scouted him as early as last January. Torino are believed to be after the player too.

Ferrero is reportedly looking to close the deal as early as possible now, among other reasons to keep the U21 Euro tournaments from inflating the player's price.

The Doria President was interviewed today by Sky Sport Italia and lamented the injury to De Silvestri.

“I contacted him right away,” he said. “I'm very sad because 'Lollo' is one of my gems and I'm fond of him.

“This morning he underwent all of his medicals, I sent all of our doctors right away.

“He'll go under the knife tomorrow.

“I went to Villa Stuart to follow everything with my own eyes because I want to be close to my lads.

“It's easy to be close to people when everyone's doing well, but in moments like these you have to be more present.”
