Since sacking Gianluca Atzori on Sunday, the Genoa club had indicated that their choice was set between former Brescia boss Iachini and former Italy and Cagliari” data-scaytid=”10″>Cagliari Coach Donadoni

The latter was seen as the preferred choice, but it is reported that after consideration, Donadoni turned down the role, prompting sporting director Pasquale Sensibile’s actions in tying up a deal with Iachini.

A statement on the club’s official website confirmed the news on Monday evening.

The 47-year-old baseball-wearing Coach is understood to have agreed personal terms on a deal until the end of the season, with the option also in place for an extension into 2012-13 should automatic promotion to Serie A be achieved.

Iachini has previous experience of Serie B, has led Chievo and Brescia to promotion from the division in recent years and has spent six of his 10 years as a Coach in Serie B.

Curiously as La Repubblica report, training in the interim period at Sampdoria has been held by Francesco Pedone, a former teammate of Iachini from their time together at Venezia” data-scaytid=”48″>Venezia.
