UEFA are reported by Gazzetta as currently reconsidering Sampdoria's involvement and have asked the Italian Football Federation for a second-degree investigation.

Samp's lawyers point out Torino were in a similar situation last year, but they were allowed into the Europa League, although primarily because the Italian authorities 'forgot' to mention it.

Should the Blucerchiati be excluded from the Europa League, their place would be given to Inter, who ended the season next in line in the standings.

Participation in the Europa League would involve, among other things, an extra €10-12m financial bonus for the Nerazzurri, along with the ticket sales from the matches themselves.
