Sampdoria have sent out mixed messages amid speculation that they are considering a move for Fiorentina’s David Pizarro.

New President Massimo Ferrero hinted yesterday of a ‘surprise’ to arrive at the club today and Tuttomercatoweb.com indicate it could be La Viola’s veteran Chilean.

Whilst the 34-year-old was reported recently as close to accepting a contract renewal to stay on at the Artemio Franchi, delays in that agreement actually coming through reportedly have Samp alert to the situation and ready to step in.

On the issue, sporting director Carlo Osti was categoric: “There is absolutely nothing with Pizarro. Nothing is true. He is not the surprise announced by President Ferrero.”

But then Ferrero has commented in a different tone to Tuttomercatoweb: “Pizarro? I don’t know… Could he be the right name? He is wonderful…”
