Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero reportedly met Dejan Stankovic in Milan today as Claudio Ranieri’s contract extension is increasingly unlikely.

The contract of the former Leicester City coach expires at the end of the season and according to the local Genoa TV Primocanale, talks to extend his stay at the club are not progressing in the right direction.

Ranieri has reportedly agreed to take a significant pay cut but would want to sign a two-year contract extension, while the Blucerchiati are offering a one-year deal.

For this reason, President Massimo Ferrero met the former Inter midfielder to offer him the Sampdoria job.

According to the report, the meeting between Ferrero and the Red Star boss took place at Milan’s restaurant “Da Berti” today.

Stankovic has been linked with becoming the new Sampdoria coach for months as his agent Fali Ramadani met Sampdoria twice in April.
