The broadcaster explains Cagliari’s deal for Bulgarian forward Despodov ‘freed’ the 31-year-old, who will replace the Pole at Marassi.

Sau has fallen down the pecking order in Sardinia, scoring just one goal this season, but has one Italy cap and remains something of a cult figure in Serie A circles.

Kownacki has similarly struggled for first-team opportunities at Samp and made his frustrations public, going as far as saying he ‘never’ wanted to go back.

Gianluca Di Marzio’s website, meanwhile, writes Cagliari will pay €3m plus bonuses for Despodov and tie him down to a contract until 2024.

The 22-year-old is primarily a right winger but can play anywhere in attack and has netted 10 times for CSKA Sofia this term.
