There are now nine players testing positive for COVID-19 in the Salernitana squad, so they could ask to postpone this weekend’s Serie A derby with Napoli.

The Granata had been hovering just below the threshold with eight cases, but another player tested positive today.

A statement released this evening confirms there are currently nine players who are positive for COVID-19.

That is 35 per cent of the squad, so under the newly-designed Serie A protocol, Salernitana can request their game be postponed this weekend.

It remains to be seen if anyone will recover before Sunday, but the ASL (local health authority) can at this moment intervene to order the entire group into quarantine.

The situation at Venezia is not very clear, as while they announced 15 members of the matchday squad have tested positive, it is not known how many are players and how many are members of staff.

The Serie A protocol only takes into account players who test positive, not those who are injured, suspended or on international duty.
