Salernitana are racing against time to find a new owner, as they cannot be promoted to Serie A because Claudio Lotito already runs Lazio.

There is a FIGC rule barring two clubs under the same ownership from playing in the same division, as naturally that would represent a conflict of interests.

Lotito therefore has to sell Salernitana, or they cannot be registered for the 2021-22 Serie A season.

According to Sportitalia, the Federation set an ultimatum of June 25 to complete the sale and send in the registration on behalf of the new owners.

Lotito has been in advanced negotiations with several figures, including former Fiorentina patrons the Della Valle brothers, but seem no closer to a deal.

Salernitana finished second in Serie B behind Empoli, with Venezia coming up via the play-offs.
