Salernitana President will try to sign Man Utd striker Cavani

Salernitana president Danilo Iervolino dreams of signing Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani.

The Granata have gained Serie A survival this season, despite sitting at rock bottom of the table for most of the campaign. They changed three coaches, but Davide Nicola ultimately gave them the decisive push to avoid relegation, collecting 15 points in the last eight Serie A games. They had managed 16 in the previous 30 matches.

“It was an extraordinary and unprecedented feat,” Iervolino told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Salernitana deserve Serie A for their fans, who have always supported us.

“The key game was the victory against Venezia, we leapfrogged them in the table. But I also liked the match against Atalanta that day, I thought we played really good football.”

Iervolino bought Salernitana from Claudio Lotito in December. Lotito owned Lazio and had to sell Salernitana by the end of 2021, or the club would have been excluded from Serie A.

Which are his plans for next season?

“I will say two names that seem impossible, but if they were possible and the coach liked them, I’d try to sign: Edinson Cavani, who has left unforgettable memories in this region, and Marko Arnautovic, who embodies the football of warriors.”

Cavani spent three seasons at Napoli, scoring 104 goals in 138 games with the Partenopei. Both Napoli and Salernitana are from the region of Campania, south Italy, and Iervolino would love to see the Uruguay international back, wearing a different shirt. Cavani is available as a free agent as his contract with Manchester United runs out in June.
