New Salernitana owner Danilo Iervolino assures he has big ambitions for the Serie A club after rescuing them from elimination. ‘We want to follow in the footsteps of Atalanta and Sassuolo.’

The club was mere minutes away from exclusion from the top flight when Iervolino’s €10m offer was accepted by the blind trust.

Owner Claudio Lotito had to sell by midnight on December 31, because the rules forbid one man from owning two clubs in the same division.

Now that Iervolino has agreed to buy Salernitana, he is speaking about his ambitions for the future, which go well beyond merely surviving the season in Serie A.

“The passion of the fans is a necessary propellant for us to reach safety. I was surprised and flattered by the warm welcome I received,” Iervolino told TuttoSalernitana.

Salernitana bought by businessman Iervolino minutes before deadline

“The January transfer window is a tricky one to navigate, so we’ll soon decide who the directors will be for this new course of action.

“The Salernitana project is not just tied to football, but a hub bringing opportunity to people of the area in many different professions.”

Iervolino is setting his sights firmly on some other Serie A sides who have found great success, despite not being the biggest clubs in Italy.

“I think Salerno is a city that should aspire to having a football club in the top 10 of Serie A. Atalanta and Sassuolo are two splendid examples of successful planning and a healthy approach to football. We hope to do the same for US Salernitana 1919.”
