According to reports on Monday evening, representatives from Salernitana held positive talks with Filippo Inzaghi earlier in the day, with discussions focussing on a potential appointment as the club’s new head coach.

The discussions came after reports that Salernitana are ready to part company with current boss Paulo Sousa, who is one of only three coaches in Serie A not to pick up a win so far in 2023-24.

As a result, the Granata currently find themselves in 19th place in the division, with just three points from their opening eight matches.

Salernitana are also reported to be unhappy with the fact that Sousa had made himself available for talks with other clubs over the summer and had considered terminating the relationship a few months ago.

With Sousa’s future now in serious doubt, it is believed that he could be dismissed to make way for a new coach over the international break.

In the event that he is moved on, Inzaghi, who most recently took charge of Reggina in 2022-23, is currently the clear favourite to take over.
