Salernitana President Danilo Iervolino confirms striker Boulaye Dia will be fined, but welcomed back to the squad after accusing Wolverhampton Wanderers of ‘tapping up’ the player.

La Dea had already excluded the centre-forward from their squad for last week’s Serie A match against Lecce, officially stating that he had reacted badly to the failed transfer on deadline day and showed an ‘attitude’ not suited to taking part in the game.

Director general Morgan De Sanctis blamed Wolves openly for approaching the player without speaking first to Salernitana and said they will “never forget what they did.”

Now President Iervolino has told Radio Bussola that Dia will be brought back into the fold after the break for international duty.

“He will be fined, but then welcomed back in. He heard the calls from the Premier League and perhaps wanted to follow them. These things happen in football. I will speak personally to the player.

“We never intend to suffocate the ambitions of our young players. We invested a great deal in him and I am convinced he will get over it.

“Salernitana are a professional club that has to be taken seriously, that loves and protects its players. We are kind, but we also have rules that are the same for everyone.”

Dia was on loan from Villarreal last season and Salernitana purchased him outright for €12m.

He was a key figure in ensuring their Serie A status last season with 16 goals and six assists in 33 appearances.
