Salernitana have officially dismissed Stefano Colantuono and the current frontrunner to take on the job is former Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo.

The 59-year-old Italian coach was signed in mid-October following the dismissal of previous coach Fabrizio Castori, but he did little to change the Campania side’s fortunes in the Italian topflight. He oversaw 15 Serie A matches with Salernitana, picking up only two wins and three draws, losing 10 matches.

The current favourite to take over the head coaching position at Salernitana is Andrea Pirlo. The 42-year-old Italian has been out of work since leaving Juventus last year and the role could represent a good opportunity for him to relaunch his coaching career.

Pirlo has given his availably to a long contract, even if the team is relegated from Serie A. Talks are currently ongoing and Salernitana will decide in the coming days.

Alternatives to Pirlo include Castori, who is still under contract, and Davide Nicola, who was most recently in charge of Torino.

  1. Even Pep won’t save Salernitana from getting relegated this season. I think this represent a good opportunity for Pirlo as well, if Salernitana trusts him for long terms.
