Salernitana deal for Villarreal striker Dia

Villarreal and Senegal centre-forward Boulaye Dia is reportedly in advanced negotiations for a €13.5m transfer to Salernitana.

According to Sky Sport Italia pundit Gianluca Di Marzio, the clubs have already agreed on the fee, but the player has asked for a few days to consider it.

It would be a loan at a cost of €2.5m, with an option to buy at the end of the season for a further €11m.

Salernitana were promoted to Serie A last season for the first time in over 20 years, then completed an extraordinary comeback in the final months to avoid relegation.

They have been searching for a high-profile striker all summer, linked with the likes of Edinson Cavani.

Dia would be a remarkable coup, as Villarreal only signed him from Stade Reims a year ago for €12m.

He scored seven goals and provided six assists in 35 competitive matches for Villarreal, including a goal in the Champions League semi-final defeat to Liverpool.

Dia was also in the Senegal squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations in January, netting twice in 17 senior caps for his country.
