Salernitana CEO Maurizio Milan confirms that they are ‘evaluating’ whether to sack coach Fabio Liverani, but director Walter Sabatini is also at risk.

The club sit rock bottom of the Serie A table and have been practically doomed for weeks now.

The situation deteriorated even further following today’s 1-0 home defeat to Lecce, which left them 11 points adrift of the safety zone with only nine rounds remaining.

“There is great regret, especially for our fans who never abandoned us,” CEO Milan told DAZN.

“There will be reflection and evaluation over the next few hours along with the President, and it will also involve evaluating the coach Liverani. The fact he is not here answering your questions is already a sign.”

It is hard to see how another change of management could possibly help, as Liverani is already their third coach of the campaign.

Paulo Sousa started the season until his dismissal on October 10, overseeing one Coppa Italia win, three Serie A draws and five defeats.

Pippo Inzaghi then had the job until February 11, with three wins, four draws and 10 losses in all competitions.

Liverani took over on February 11 and managed one stalemate along with three defeats.

Salernitana had in previous years rebooted after a revolution in the January transfer window, but the miracle was not repeated this time around, even with the return of director Sabatini.

“We thought after the window that we had revitalised the squad. Even a week of keeping everyone in a training retreat had little impact.

“There is disappointment and I am here to send a strong signal. Reflection is our duty towards a city, a fanbase and a club that invested a great deal.”

Milan also announced this would be the final interview from anyone associated with Salernitana, as “from now on the club will speak only via press statements.”
