Salernitana have reportedly agreed a deal with Cagliari for striker Joao Pedro, who had also been linked with Torino and Monza.

It was inevitable that the Brazilian, who has one cap for Italy, would have to leave Sardinia after Cagliari’s relegation to Serie B.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Salernitana have this evening agreed a basic fee to sign Joao Pedro, although they still need to discuss personal terms with the player.

The 30-year-old had also been heavily linked with a move to Torino and newly-promoted Monza, although they had baulked at the €10m asking price.

His contract with Cagliari only runs to June 2023 and he has been at the club since 2014, even becoming the captain in recent years.

Joao Pedro scored 13 goals and provided four assists in 37 Serie A appearances this season, but was still unable to prevent their relegation to Serie B.

Curiously, it was Salernitana who secured their safety at the expense of Cagliari in the final round of the campaign.
