Milan winger Alexis Saelemaekers was heavily involved at both ends when he played his first competitive game with Belgium in the 5-2 win over Estonia. ‘I gave everything to help the team’.

Saelemaekers, who had only played in a friendly match prior to the World Cup Qualifier on Wednesday, was substituted after 66 minutes and replaced by goalscorer Thomas Foket.

The 22-year-old was close to scoring hist first goal with the Red Devils and felt his first competitive game with the national team was ‘interesting’, as he ‘regrets’ the poor pass to Hans Vanaken ahead of Estonia’s goal in the second minute.

“I think I had an interesting game overall; I did my best even though I made a serious mistake and I regret it,” Saelemaekers said at a press conference.

“Then I gave everything I had to help the team, to find unity. I tried to contribute to the win and it’s the most important thing to remember today.

“We must remember the reaction after the first goal and the good match we played.”
