Sacchi on Serie A title race: Inter better than Milan

Former Milan coach Arrigo Sacchi said Inter will be the strongest side in Serie A next season.

The Milan clubs have finished in the top two spots in each of the previous two campaigns, with the positions reversed and the Rossoneri coming out on top in 2021-22.

However, Milan have so far only recruited ex-Liverpool forward Divock Origi on a free transfer, while Inter have announced five new signings – three of which are likely first-team players.

Asked by La Gazzetta dello Sport who he thought would be fighting for the title, Sacchi said: “For me Inter are in front. From a technical point of view and in terms of experience, for me, they were also ahead last season.

“But then Milan deservedly won the title but the situation is the same.”

Asked who he considered as second favourite to Inter, Sacchi said: “It’s unlikely Juve will falter two seasons in a row. They have bought players which fit [Massimiliano] Allegri’s style, and this is positive.

“They need to find that battling spirit which has always marked them.”

Finally he was asked specifically where he saw Milan and Sacchi warned his former side their title victory last season was a “minor miracle” and they need to avoid think “they’ve made it.”

He added: “There, fighting for the title. It’s important, though, that they quickly forget the minor miracle they achieved last season and work on trying to improve on the gaps which were clear last season.

“They kick off with the enthusiasm from last season’s title win and this gives a good dose of energy but don’t dare think they’ve made it.”

Sacchi also said he was watching Napoli “with interest” and defended president Aurelio De Laurentiis following criticism from supporters, remining them he had taken the club from the third tier to the Champions League.
