Sacchi: ‘Napoli spent well but…’

Arrigo Sacchi praises Napoli’s transfer campaign, but warns they must learn to win ugly like Juventus.

The Partenopei sold Gonzalo Higuain to the Bianconeri this summer, and have reinvested the money in the likes of Arkadiusz Milik, Nikola Maksimovic and Amadou Diawara.

“Napoli have invested €123m, they haven’t spent like Juventus, Napoli have bought players who can mature further,” Sacchi explained on Radio Crc.

“That means the team has significant room for growth, it’s a young team, at least six of the 11 who face Benfica had never played in the Champions League.

“Napoli, however, have a limitation: if they don’t play well they lose. Juventus are different in that regard, and the match against Palermo is proof.

“Napoli have fun though, and I hope they keep doing it. When I was in charge of the Italian youth teams I’d send our Coaches to watch [Maurizio] Sarri’s training sessions.

“I spoke to [Silvio] Berlusconi and [Adriano] Galliani about him, I advised the President to take him before he went to Napoli.

“I was sure he could repeat what I did in my time at Milan, I have great faith in Maurizio.”
