Sacchi: ‘Juventus never played well, let Fonseca work’ at Milan

Former Italy coach Arrigo Sacchi feels that Paulo Fonseca needs time at Milan and warns that Juventus ‘never played well’, so he hopes Thiago Motta will be allowed to ‘work his way.’

Sacchi analysed the opening two Serie A games of the season in an interview with Il Messaggero.

Juventus secured back-to-back victories against Como and Hellas Verona.

“Thiago Motta is a very good coach and I am saying so because I watched his training sessions in Bologna,” said Sacchi, as quoted by Alfredo Pedullà.

“However, two things must be taken into account. He is playing these opening games with young players who are still developing and who, perhaps, feel that some situations are easy when they really aren’t. And then, Juventus never really played well. It remains to be seen if the directors, who I don’t know, will let Motta work his way. In the past, Juventus won for their economic and political power, not their playing style.”

On the other hand, Milan earned just one point from their Serie A matches with Torino and Parma, so Fonseca is already under pressure.

“It takes patience before giving judgments. I just say, let him work,” said Sacchi.

“I remember that Fonseca played good football in Ukraine. Roma is a different thing. It’s just too tricky. Nobody really works well there.”
