The so-called father of Italian total football appears to have sided with the three-time Scudetto winner unconditionally.

On from earlier statements that Conte deserves greater respect, he went on to elaborate on his tactical genius.

“In football there are various kinds of Coaches,” he told Milan Channel. “There are a small number of tactical, play-making geniuses, many who follow the trends of the moment, and some who are too attached to the past.

“Conte belongs to the group of the masters. He is the conductor of the orchestra.

“The problem when coaching the national team is that you have no time, so it takes a terrific talent for synthesis. Conte is the best Coach in Italy, and he proved it.”

The former Milan Coach then broadened his argument to embrace the best tacticians in European football.

“The three best Coaches today are very different from each other. [Bayern Munich's Pep] Guardiola is the most imaginative, but he can't manipulate a team like [Real Madrid's Carlo] Ancelotti, who knows how to create something positive regardless of who he works with.

“[Chelsea's Jose] Mourinho, on the other hand, can draw the very best out of his players.”
