Walter Sabatini was very impressed with Roma’s acquisition of Paulo Dybala this summer, suggesting that he wouldn’t regret the move to the Italian capital.

The 28-year-old Argentinian forward ended a seven-year association with Juventus in the summer, leaving on a free transfer after his contract expired. Dybala initially seemed close to joining Simone Inzaghi’s Inter before eventually putting pen to paper on a contract with Roma, adding a top forward to Jose Mourinho’s squad.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sabatini detailed his admiration of Roma’s signing of Dybala and the influence of coach Jose Mourinho.

“Someone like him makes those who don’t have him regret it. I would’ve been surprised if he had done badly. Dybala is a champion and a relentless sniper. Roma did a wonderful operation in getting him.

“And he did well not to worry too much about injuries. It’s just a question of cycles, even the bad ones pass. When I met him he hadn’t signed for Roma yet, but I was sure he would.

“Mourinho’s presence was decisive for his choice and that doesn’t surprise me, the Portuguese coach’s influence on players is enormous. And rightly so, given his career.”

He touched on Juventus’ decision not to renew the 28-year-old’s contract.

“I don’t know the needs of the Bianconeri, but I say that the fury at Juventus seems exaggerated.”

Finally, Sabatini commented on if Inter will regret not signing Dybala and why he’ll be happy at Roma.

“For someone like Dybala everyone regrets it, but in any case going to Roma is never a second choice, because the club is making a great path of growth. And Paulo is ready to score another 100 goals in Serie A with Roma.

“Whoever comes to Roma hardly ever chooses to leave. There’s a fan base that knows how to push you towards all kinds of goals. The welcome they gave Paulo was something exceptional. It’s impossible not to be impressed.”

Dybala signed a three-year contract with Roma and has started the season incredibly well under Jose Mourinho, scoring four goals and providing two assists in his opening eight games across all competitions.

Am I the only one who has to rewrite my comments several times? Normal comments at that, without any mean words.

  2. @ROMAntic, ive literally stopped trying to comment on most things. If there was at least some rules/guidelines so we could know why comments dont publish?
