Walter Sabatini believes Javier Pastore could’ve been a superstar, but “rested on his laurels at PSG” and is doing the same with Roma.

Sampdoria director Sabatini is back speaking to the media after several weeks in treatment and even confessed he is cutting down his prodigious smoking habit.

He was on Rai 3 when discussing his career at Palermo, Roma, Inter and now Samp.

“I did suffer when having to sell certain Roma players, but it was a problem the club simply had to face up to and deal with,” said Sabatini.

“There are many players who disappointed me over the years. An example is Pastore, who at Palermo played the kind of football that you can only imagine in your dreams. Then he went to PSG and rested on his laurels, just put his feet up and coasted.

“It’s so sad, because he could’ve achieved so much.”

Pastore is now back in Serie A with Roma, but other than two back-heel flick goals has made no impact in his 11 competitive appearances.
