Former Roma director Walter Sabatini criticises Jose Mourinho for the public outbursts against his own players. ‘It’s an opiate of the masses.’

The Special One has courted controversy over the last few days by first accusing Rick Karsdorp or ‘betraying his teammates with an unprofessional attitude’ and then criticising Tammy Abraham.

It is hardly the first time that the former Chelsea, Inter, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Tottenham manager has put himself centre-stage.

“He does his usual daily recital, all for the use of the journalists,” Sabatini told TMW Radio.

“When he came to Roma, I said he would provide an opiate of the masses, and I am being proved right. I admired him for what he achieved at Porto, but for the rest, his record as a coach leaves me largely indifferent.”

Karsdorp has already left Italy for the Winter break and is looking for a new club, while there are now reports Roma are ready to accept suitable offers in January for Abraham.

“Pushing players is good, but when you put a player like Karsdorp out there as an object of scorn, you take away his ability to work. This lad will probably never be able to have a normal life in Rome again.

“It is sad that he felt the need to run away to Holland, it could’ve been dealt with differently.”

  1. i agree – hes too outspoken, he tries to claim its him against the world, he expects that every player to be a gladiator – yet he bad mouths too many players, does too many dirty things outside the game to get his final say on every matter, including his own players.

  2. He always throws his players under the bus that he usually parks.

Roma fans seems happy though, so let’s see how this goes.

  3. Sabatini running his mouth like Mo is a bit like the pot calling the kettle black without understanding nothing. Mo won the treble with Inter mainly because his players both respected and had a little fear. Without that respect a player will never give you 110% on the field and this is what he’s asking. Is it harsh yes, but if practice every day for hours on end is not motivating these players sometime a beatdown is required. Is it harsh? Yes, but Abraham and and Rick have been lazy and disappointing and its not enough to win like that and Mo knows it.
