Former Roma, Palermo and Salernitana director Walter Sabatini claims Juventus will be the main contenders to Napoli for the Scudetto this season. ‘It’s an act of football perversion to call for Max Allegri’s dismissal.’
The Bianconeri had a disastrous start to the campaign, which also saw them crash out of the Champions League in the group phase.
However, they turned things around with six consecutive Serie A victories and went into the break for the World Cup in third place on 31 points, just two shy of Milan and 10 adrift of leaders Napoli.
“It’s an act of football perversion to call for Allegri’s dismissal now,” Sabatini told Radio Bianconera.
“We are talking about a man who won repeated Serie A titles and achieved it during an historically difficult time. Juventus cannot find anything better on the market than him, so I find those who want him sacked to be a bit bizarre.”
There is a gap of 10 points to Napoli, but Sabatini is still confident that Juve can be the biggest threat to the Partenopei, especially now they are in the Europa League.
“Napoli are running away, there’s no doubt about it, but that doesn’t mean Juventus won’t become their definitive antagonists for the title. Anyone who thought that two months ago was fantasising, it was totally unthinkable until recently.
“Juventus have rediscovered themselves, not just for the six wins in a row, but for how those were achieved. Allegri has done an excellent job.”
The Old Lady had the worst possible start, managing only three wins in the opening nine rounds, along with two defeats and four stalemates.
That included losses to Milan and newly-promoted Monza, while they lost five of their six Champions League games.
