Former Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini admits he wanted to sign Paulo Dybala but “couldn’t afford” to.
The Argentine forward spent three seasons with Palermo, scoring 13 times in the 2014-15 campaign to earn a move to Juventus for €32m plus €8m in bonuses.
Sabatini is himself a former Rosanero sporting director, and he was asked by Mediagol if he had ever thought of brining ‘La Joya’ to Rome.

Sabatini is himself a former Rosanero sporting director, and he was asked by Mediagol if he had ever thought of brining ‘La Joya’ to Rome.
“When he exploded in his last year at Palermo, his price went up a lot and I couldn’t afford to take him to Rome, even if I was very much infatuated with the player,” the 61-year-old explained.
“I thought of [Franco] Vazquez more than once, but Roma already had players in that role who have to be protected, and I never got to the end of that question.
“These are players who have shaped the recent history of Palermo, and when people think about [President Maurizio] Zamparini they should also remember these things.”
