“It’s a delicate moment, almost a dramatic situation,” the director of sport told Roma TV.
“We already spoke between staff, club, team and Coach. We know that we have to clam up now, fight hard and accept the criticism that we deserve.
“We know it will be difficult to emerge from this situation, because after this performance our credit has precipitated.
“Today we cannot look for excuses, we must be responsible towards the people and the club. You emerge from these moments with reciprocal generosity and a superior effort to what we normally put in.
“The team put what was needed to win on to the field, albeit in a not very spectacular manner. In a moment like this we need to shelve the spectacular football and focus on results.
“The first goal came from our error and it was like a black cloud descended upon us. I could see the eyes of the players were clouded over, they could only see black, and it became difficult to turn the situation around.
“I don’t know how to change this other than everyone accepting responsibility and realising where we went wrong.”
The Curva Sud has been boycotting home games all season, but today the Olimpico was painfully empty.
“I hope the fans don’t lose the desire to support the team. This request will be greeted with sarcasm and scepticism, but we want to extend it anyway because we know the team has quality.
“We can only emerge from this moment with a sense of sacrifice and shared responsibility.”
