“We are still at the start of this season and yet already have two head-to-head clashes,” said Inzaghi in his press conference.

They had one upset already, beaten 4-1 at home by Atalanta, and now host Scudetto favourites Inter at the Stadio Olimpico.

“We played fairly well on Wednesday against Atalanta, but made mistakes we simply cannot afford. A good performance was not enough, we’ve got to do even better against Inter and maintain the utmost concentration.

“Lazio will require the perfect performance. Inter are a very physical side, tough to beat, with an excellent coach and huge strength in depth. We need greater focus than we had on Wednesday.”

Mohamed Fares has finally completed his transfer from SPAL, with Andreas Pereira and Vedat Muriqi also arriving.

“I think Fares will be called up, although he hasn’t been training properly, so at most he’ll be on the bench. I have to evaluate the fitness levels of Tucu Correa, Felipe Caicedo and Ciro Immobile. We’ll try to improve game by game.”

Considering Lazio were challenging for the Scudetto up until the lockdown and change of schedule highlighted their lack of alternatives, Inzaghi was asked if the expectations were too high for his team?

“It’s right that there are high expectations, because we had a great season, won the Italian Supercup and qualified for the Champions League. We knew there’d be problems in the first three games, so we have to keep going and try to put in a strong performance tomorrow.”
