Rumours from Nigeria have suggested that Napoli forward Victor Osimhen will pull out of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The 23-year-old Parteonpei forward hoped to join the Nigerian national team for the upcoming tournament, working hard to recover from the fractured cheekbone which risked his place in the competition.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, rumours from Nigeria have suggested that Osimhen will be forced to withdraw from the national team after testing positive for COVID recently.

The Napoli forward has reportedly already told his national team coach Augustine Eguavoen and federal officials that he wishes to withdraw his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Osimhen was supposed to return to Italy today in order to undergo checks on his cheekbone following the fracture suffered in November but the positive test makes this impossible.

These rumours have not been confirmed yet but there is a genuine chance that he’ll be forced to miss the competition yet again. In 2019 he missed all but one game in the Africa Cup of Nations, playing only 45 minutes in the third place play-off.
