“I am a man who thinks positive, I’ve been fortunate enough to experience a 2020 in which we won everything,” Rummenigge told Sky Sport Italia.

“A week ago, we were crowned World Champions, so I am enjoying this moment. I had a great career in football as a player and now director, so I hope it’ll be going this season.”

He spent some of that time in Italy and specifically at Inter, so he still keeps a close eye on his old club.

“I watched the Milan Derby and very much liked the result,” Rummenigge said of the 3-0 Inter victory.

“I congratulated my friend, Beppe Marotta. I’m happy that after years of suffering, now Inter are experiencing a joyful moment. They are the big favourites for the Scudetto and I really wish with all my heart that they win, because the fans deserve it. I am keeping my fingers crossed.”

Lukaku is also battling with Cristiano Ronaldo for the Capocannoniere title.

“Lukaku is a forward who really works for the team, he scores goals and provides assists. I really like him. The cross for the opening goal was exceptional and showed great technique, something he is often criticised for.”
