Daniele Rugani said he didn’t move to Cagliari ‘to return to Juventus’ and said he found the needed ‘trust’ in Sardinia. ‘I wanted to feel alive’.

The 26-year-old defender was the first Serie A player to be diagnosed with coronavirus after Juventus' match against Inter in Serie A last season, and he recalled the moment in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I will always remember those moments, I developed a fever after the match against Inter, but I had no other problems,” Rugani said.

“The problem, after the positive test, was another, namely that my partner Michela was pregnant.

“In the end, however, Thomas arrived, and this joy made us forget about everything.”

Rugani recently returned to Serie A after a short stint on loan with Stade Rennais in Ligue 1, and stressed he will be open to stay at Cagliari.

He has played six League games so far with the Rossoblu and even scored the winner in a 1-0 win over Bologna this month.

“Anyone who thinks I came here to return to Juve is wrong,” he said. “I needed trust and I found it here.

“I wanted to feel alive. I don’t know what will happen in my future but if they are happy with me at Cagliari, I can sit down and talk to them first.

“I was unlucky at Rennes, but I don’t regret that choice.”
