Chelsea fell 10 points behind the Champions League places after another missed opportunity against a London rival, and Rudiger expressed concern with how his team were playing under Conte.

“I think we begged. We begged for the goal,” the former Roma defender told Sky Sports after the game.

“I think in the second half we [could] finish the game [off]. But like the last few months, we didn’t and we [conceded].

“For me, it’s not easy to explain. I don’t understand why after 1-0 we always drop and let the opponent get more ball possession.

“Like the last weeks again, we [gave] them a gift. I think that was the first chance they [had].

The €40m man also spoke of his regret at not honouring Blues legend Ray Wilkins with a victory, the former Milan midfielder sadly passing away last week.

“Yes of course, it’s sad we didn’t give something back to him. [We’re] sorry for that,” he added.

“We have start to play good football and win games. If you don’t win games there’s no top-four, it’s easy.”
