The defender has repeatedly been linked with a move to the Premier League, even as he’s just recovered from five months out with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

“I am very happy to be a Roma player,” said the German international in a Press conference today.

“When there is all this talk about the transfer market, the most important thing for me is being a Roma player.

“This period has not been easy for me, but at the end of the day I am happy to be in good shape and to be able to play again.”

Rudiger could well start tomorrow’s Europa League visit to Austria Vienna.

“I am ready to play, although naturally the decision is up to the Coach. I’d be very happy to step on to the pitch.”
