Monza starlet Nicolò Rovella reveals where he needs to improve and does not regret leaving Juventus on loan last summer: ‘Monza have a big club mentality.’

Rovella made three competitive appearances with Juventus at the beginning of the season before joining Monza on loan.

Tuttosport asked the Italian midfielder if he has regrets leaving the Allianz Stadium considering that Nicolò Fagioli and Fabio Miretti are getting regular playing time under Massimiliano Allegri.

“Of course, everyone would like to play for Juventus and I’d love it too,” said Rovella who revealed Claudio Marchisio, Luka Modric and Wesley Sneijder were his idols.

“However, the choice was part of a path that began last season when I was on loan at Genoa. At Monza, there are Berlusconi and Galliani, there are excellent training facilities. There’s a big club mentality even if we’ve just been promoted.”

So, how can he convince Juventus?

“By Working hard and doing my best for Monza. Juventus will be a consequence, first I need to work hard and play well. The level at Monza is very high, so I will surely learn.”

Has Allegri ever called him?

“Sometimes he does and he also calls Galliani. He did it after the match with Empoli.”

Rovella had been sent off against the Tuscans in October, “surely it was the worst moment of my career,” he admitted.

Why aren’t young players given more opportunities in Italian football?

“Because there’s the fear they’ll make mistakes,” said the 21-year-old.

“Young players must be given the freedom to make errors, but with the aim of getting the best result, often more experienced players are picked instead.”

Where does he need to improve?

“I have to put on muscles and improve defensively. At the same time, when I have the ball, I must move well on the pitch and score more goals. I haven’t scored any so far. Fewer than this is impossible.”
