Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini thinks Delio Rossi deserves to be considered for the Roma job.

Rossi has emerged as one of the candidates to replace caretaker boss Vincenzo Montella partly because his former colleague at Palermo and Lazio, Walter Sabatini, is due to be appointed as Roma's new director of sport.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday's Coppa Italia semi-final against Milan, Zamparini said: "I will not make decisions based on the mood of the fans.

"In my opinion Rossi would be very adapted to Roma given his experience as a Coach. He has only one flaw with me. In the end perhaps he'll stay at Palermo.

"We need to meet and see if there are the conditions for him to stay. If two people don't get on it's best to separate and go down the path of divorce.

"My first wife was very beautiful, but we didn't get on. Now I am with another one with whom I get on very well. It will be Rossi rather than I who makes this decision.

"To say that the people love him seems a bit much for me, but they know that he is a good Coach."
