Fiorentina star Giuseppe Rossi admits it was “frustrating” to be left out of the World Cup by Cesare Prandelli.

The Viola striker maintained he was fully fit, but dropped from Italy’s ill-fated jaunt to Brazil by Coach Prandelli.

“Not going to the World Cup was frustrating,” Rossi told ESPN. “I had worked so hard to be there.

“Things did not go the way I expected to, but then football doesn’t always give you joy.

“Vincenzo Montella is a great Coach, we all respect him and follow his indications because he understands the needs of us players, having retired not long ago.

“Last season Ciro Immobile won the Capocannoniere title and he has gone to Borussia Dortmund, so I think I’ll be fighting for that award with Carlos Tevez, Gonzalo Higuain and Luca Toni.

“Gonzalo Rodriguez is a leader on the field, a player who is very important for the squad. He played for many years at a high level and we hope he’ll stay with us.”

Rossi also confessed he did not expect Conte to leave Juventus just two days into pre-season training.

“Conte’s resignation surprised everyone, but Juventus remain a strong side.”
