Delio Rossi insists Palermo did all they could in the circumstances after going down to 10 men at the Dall'Ara.

“We were already a bit cobbled together due to the many absentees,” said the Coach after a 1-0 defeat to Bologna.

“The first half was balanced, then the red card put us under added pressure and we began to struggle.”

Santiago Garcia received a second yellow card for bringing down Riccardo Meggiorini on the hour mark.

“We held out as best we could in the circumstances against a good side. I knew Garcia would be at risk out of position, but we were in an emergency situation and had to play him there.”

Palermo's second consecutive defeat will no doubt raise more speculation of problems between Rossi and President Maurizio Zamparini.

“A Coach has to put out the best line-up he can with the squad at his disposal. The President knows this team gave its all and will make his judgment based on that.

“This side has done well since I have been in charge, playing in an attacking fashion and the results are behind me.”
