The Azzurri end their second week of World Cup preparations at Coverciano this morning, before flying out to London in the evening ahead of tomorrow night’s first pre-tournament warm-up scheduled with Republic of Ireland at Craven Cottage.

The Gazzetta dello Sport are running the line that Rossi will be handed a starting place in Cesare Prandelli’s team, presenting the 27-year-old with an opportunity to prove his fitness.

Rossi was included in the CT’s provisional 30 man squad despite having only just returned to playing time for Fiorentina after four months out with a knee injury.

The Azzurri’s chief doctor Enrico Castellacci hinted earlier this week that Rossi’s response to playing in the team’s warm-up fixture with Ireland will be monitored and taken into consideration.

Reports earlier this week also indicated Cesare Prandelli has been trying out his players in both 4-4-2 and 4-3-1-2 formations.
