The Italy international is facing a period of up to three months on the sidelines after sustaining a sprain and second degree damage to the medial collateral ligament in his right knee after a challenge from Livorno’s Leandro Rinaudo on Sunday.

On from initial tests confirming this injury and ruling out a third cruciate injury to the joint, the player will fly out to the US tomorrow to undergo further examinations by Dr Richard Steadman, which will ascertain full damage and prognosis for his return.

Dr Steadman is a famed specialist on the knee and operated on the Rossi’s second cruciate knee injury sustained in mid-2012 when at Villarreal.
