Giuseppe Rossi has reassured he’ll be ready for Euro 2012. “I’ll have to convince Cesare Prandelli I can help out.”

The striker was first choice in the qualifiers, but snapped knee ligaments and is set to be out for a total of six months.

“It is three months and a week since my operation and things are proceeding according to plan,” the 25-year-old told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“The doctors are happy, my knee is strong and can move almost naturally. For the past 10 days I’ve been running and working with the ball. I’m trying not to look too far into the future, so I focus on day to day work.

“If there are no complications, then I hope to play the last five or six games of the season. That will allow me to get match fitness and hopefully help Villarreal out, as they are going through a difficult time.

“Of course, then I’ll have to convince Prandelli that I can help out Italy at Euro 2012.”

Rossi is not the only Azzurri player seeking fitness for the tournament, as Antonio Cassano has been out since October following surgery for a congenital heart defect.

“I hope Antonio can make it back for the tournament, as we all really need him. Mario Balotelli is in great shape and I’m sure he’ll be a big figure at Euro 2012.”
