Giuseppe Rossi’s recovery from his latest knee injury is going ‘according to plan’ Fiorentina’s medical director assures.

The Italian international has not played for the Viola all season after undergoing knee surgery in September.

Former Manchester United striker Rossi has been plagued by knee trouble in recent seasons, making just 31 appearances in the last four campaigns for Fiorentina and Villarreal, but his latest recovery is progressing as expected.

“He [Rossi] is now beginning the central part of his physiotherapy,” Paolo Manetti explained to the club’s official website.

“Up to this point he’s had to avoid using weights, but now a period of muscular exercises and gym work is beginning, but he still won’t be on the pitch.

“The possibility of playing in a match will be assessed after tests over the Christmas break.

“Everything is going according to plan.”

Manetti also assessed the condition of Federico Bernardeschi who is also unavailable after fracturing an ankle.

“Tomorrow we will remove the stitches and then he will begin to undergo physiotherapy.

“It will be a long, hard road but things are going according to plan.”
