Rossi: ‘No sense’ in Palermo stay

Delio Rossi has explained why he's walking away from Palermo. “I'm sorry for the fans, but continuing this journey would not have made sense.”

The Coach had already been fired and re-hired in the space of 35 days when Serse Cosmi made a brief appearance on the Stadio Barbera bench.

Ultimately the very public rows with President Maurizio Zamparini proved too much to overcome.

The Coach had already been fired and re-hired in the space of 35 days when Serse Cosmi made a brief appearance on the Stadio Barbera bench.

Ultimately the very public rows with President Maurizio Zamparini proved too much to overcome.

“We did not have the right conditions to maintain this rapport. Continuing this journey would not have made sense. What good would it do?” said Rossi.

“I am only sorry for the fans, as they love the team and have always shown me great affection. I will come to Palermo over the next few days to say goodbye to everyone and might even organise a Press conference.

“I do regret not giving Palermo the Coppa Italia, but that was just the way it went.”

Rossi's last game at the helm was a 3-1 Coppa Italia Final defeat to Inter last Sunday night, though simply being in that tie qualified them for the Europa League.

“I can never cancel the feelings that these fans have given me. The entire city spent a year and a half on this journey together.”
