Giuseppe Rossi has praised Fiorentina for bringing back Vincenzo Montella, who is a ‘great’ Coach.

Montella recently returned to Fiorentina after Stefano Pioli handed in his resignation, and Rossi has only good memories of ‘Aeroplanino’, scoring 17 goals under him during the 2013-14 campaign.

“He’s a Coach who is prepared and able to take care of every little detail of the game,” the former Italy striker told Corriere dello Sport.

“His experience as a top-level player allows him to understand the needs of individuals and maintain a good relationship with the group.

“The match against Juve was a special match, also for his speech in the dressing room at the end of the first half.

“He gave us the right wake-up call, then you all know how it ended [4-2 with a Rossi hat-trick].

“He’s a great Coach and able to get the best out of his players, letting them all express their qualities.

“Having fun on the field, regardless of formations and systems, is important for us players. That’s why I think Montella is a great Coach.”

Rossi remains a free agent after failing to earn a move back to Manchester United, so could he reunite with the former Milan boss?

“I miss the city a lot,” he admitted.

“Sometimes I come back and always feel at home. This city will always remain in my heart and those of my family members.

“I also have a lot of affection for the people of Florence and the Viola fans. They always supported me, not only in the good times but also the bad ones.

“Wearing the Fiorentina shirt is wonderful, you feel the responsibility of representing a passionate group of people.

“It would’ve been great to celebrate a trophy in Florence. I hope the players, club and, above all, the fans can celebrate one as soon as possible.”

Finally the 32-year-old had a few words for Federico Chiesa, who has succeeded him as fans’ favourite at the Artemio Franchi.

“We’re totally different, but I’m happy with its growth,” he concluded.

“If he goes on like this he can become a symbol, not only for Fiorentina but also Italian football.”
