Italy legend Paolo Rossi believes Juventus “can win the Champions League and Gonzalo Higuain’s decision wasn’t about money.”

The Bianconeri surprised everyone by agreeing to activate his €90m release clause from rivals Napoli.

“Higuain is a great player who guarantees an important step up in quality for Juve,” Rossi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Now they can really go on to win the Champions League. I think Higuain’s decision wasn’t about money, but rather because he wants to win, not just in Italy, but also in Europe.

“Perhaps he’s the best centre-forward in the world right now, but he is certainly among the top three. I’ve seen him do incredible things, he can score in any way and is a guarantee of goals.

“He’s a classic centre-forward, devastating in the box, but can also combine with his teammates. He’s therefore an old-style striker with the characteristics of a modern player. He’s got good technique, but also physical strength.

“His best quality is keeping his cool in front of goal and the determination he plays with. If he scores one goal, he immediately tries to go for another. His hunger for goals and victories is perfectly in line with the Juve attitude, so he’ll fit right in.

“It’s hard to find a defect in Higuain’s game, perhaps his heading ability.”

The Argentine shattered Serie A records stretching back to 1949-50, scoring 36 goals in 35 games for Napoli last season.

“He’s very different to Mario Mandzukic, so something has to change in Juve’s approach,” continued Pablito Rossi.

“Mandzukic is more generous, but not as effective with his finishing. It is an important resource for Max Allegri to have two such different forwards in the same squad.

“Higuain will score less at Juve, certainly, and will have to share the goals with Paulo Dybala, but I don’t think it’ll be that big a difference. He is at the height of his powers and will settle in quickly.

“Dybala is extraordinary and can play alongside anyone, so I’m sure he’ll form a crazy partnership with Higuain. They can become one of the best strike partnerships in Bianconeri history.”
